All About Live Tutoring in Foundations

Live Tutoring is a virtual, live experience where a tutor guides you and up to three other learners through activities that inspire conversation and reinforce your new language skills. Your tutor, a native speaker of the language you’re learning, is there to help you with pronunciation and grammar, provide encouragement, and ultimately enable you to speak with confidence.

How do I schedule a Live Tutoring session?

Each unit in Foundations has two corresponding Live Tutoring sessions; after Lesson 2 and after Lesson 4. Once you’ve completed Level 1, Unit 1, Core Lesson 2, you’ll be ready for your first 25-minute session.

Follow the steps below to schedule a Live Tutoring Session:

  1. Hover over the Live Tutoring button on the toolbar and click “Schedule.2.From the Live Tutoring scheduling screen, choose your unit from the unit bar at the top of the screen.

We recommend scheduling your sessions ahead of time so you'll have a better selection of Live Tutoring session times. You can schedule sessions up to 6 weeks in advance.

You can also repeat Live Tutoring sessions that you have taken at any time; however, make sure you’ve completed the relevant core lessons within the unit before your scheduled session.  You can have up to two Live Tutoring sessions scheduled at once, so long as the sessions are not identical and occur at different times. For example, you can not be registered for two Level 1, Unit 1, Lesson 2 Live Tutoring sessions at the same time, but you can be registered for a Level 1, Unit 1, Lesson 2 and a Level 1, Unit 1, Lesson 4 Live Tutoring session at the same time.

How can I get ready for my Live Tutoring session?

Here are some tips to prepare for your Live Tutoring session:

  • Sign-in 15 minutes early to make sure your system is connected to the internet and that your USB headset is working properly. If possible, use a wired connection rather than a wireless connection. Click here to learn more about our system requirements for Live Tutoring sessions.
  • Make sure you have your USB headset plugged in, set up, and correctly configured on your computer.
  • Find a quiet space that will allow you to focus on your session and sign out of all applications, which may interfere with your connection to Live Tutoring.
  • Review lessons from the relevant unit to prepare.
  • Play games and/or read stories to review concepts in Extended Learning. We recommend focusing on Talk activities so that you can practice speaking in your new language!

How can I reduce echoes during a Live Tutoring session?

Echoes in Live Tutoring sessions usually occur because your headset, or another participant's headset, isn't configured properly. Ensuring your headset is configured before attending your Live Tutoring session is the best way to prevent echoes in your Live Tutoring session. You can click on the link below to learn how to set up your headset for your operating system.

What should I do if my Live Tutoring session is canceled?

Under rare circumstances, Rosetta Stone may have to cancel a Live Tutoring session. For example, a Tutor may be unavailable or the site may experience technical difficulties. If you are scheduled for a Live Tutoring session that is canceled, please schedule another Live Tutoring session as soon as possible.

How can I cancel my Live Tutoring session?

We know that things can come up, and if you believe you won't be able to attend your Live Tutoring, we encourage you to cancel your registration to help provide other learners the opportunity to attend. Here are the various ways to cancel your Live Tutoring session:

  • Cancel via the Cancel button under Your Scheduled Sessions in your Live Tutoring calendar.
  • Click the Cancel link in the reminder email that you should receive before your Live Tutoring session (Enterprise and Higher Ed only, K12 learners do not receive emails).
