Questions Displaying as Skipped in a Foundations Activity

At the end of every activity, the program displays a gauge that shows you the number of questions you answered correctly out of the total number of questions possible.

If you pass the activity, you’ll see the following screen, which gives you the option to repeat the same activity for extra practice or move on to the next activity:

If you miss or skip too many questions, you’ll see one of the following screens, which give you the option to review or repeat the activity and try for a better score on questions that you missed/skipped, or move on to the next activity:

If you choose to review/repeat the activity and try for a better score on questions that you missed/skipped, you can click the Menu button (three dots inside a circle) at the bottom right within the lesson to see your current score, number of questions correct, incorrect, and skipped out of the total number of questions available.

The green, red, and grey circular icons next to the number of correct, incorrect, and skipped questions in the menu match the circular icons at the bottom of the activity, and can be helpful in figuring out which questions you need to go back to.

You can also tell how many questions are correct, incorrect, and skipped on the main lessons screen.

Skipped Questions

Questions will appear as skipped for one of two reasons: pressing the skip button or disabling speech recognition.

Pressing Skip

The skip button is located at the bottom right of every activity. If you press skip, the program will go to the next question, or on the last question it will end the activity. Skipped questions are noted by a light grey bubble at the bottom of the screen, and you can click on these bubbles to go back and answer the questions.

*Note that skipped items count toward the final percentage as incorrect items and decrease the final activity score. You may wish to click through the grey (skipped) and red (missed) questions at the bottom of the screen to navigate to incomplete questions and attempt or redo any missed questions to get a better score.

When the option to "Continue automatically to next screen" is disabled in your course settings, then it will be necessary to manually navigate to the next screen after finishing all questions on the current screen. Once you finish all questions on the current screen, the Skip button will turn into a Next button, allowing you to move on while saving your scores on the current screen.

Disabled Speech Recognition

If your device does not detect a microphone, then the program may allow you to continue the lesson without speech recognition by clicking “Continue without speech for this session” on the microphone selection screen.

When speech recognition is disabled, any lesson that requires speech will play sound, but will not give you an opportunity to respond and will be marked as skipped in the reports.

To avoid this, always use a working and configured USB headset.

*Please note that the usage of the program without a microphone headset can disable the “use speech recognition” setting. Follow the instructions below to re-enable speech recognition in Rosetta Stone Foundations.
