I'm receiving the message: The language CD was not found, please make sure that the language CD is in the drive and try again.

This error indicates Rosetta Stone® was unable to locate the Language CD to install.  The following are common causes of this issue and will be covered in this solution:

  • An incorrect CD is in the CD-Drive.
  • The Language CD is scratched or dirty.
  • Rosetta Stone is unable to locate the CD-ROM drive.

On Windows

First, ensure the correct disk is in the drive:

  1. Eject the CD from the drive.
  2. Ensure it is a Language CD. Language CDs are from the CD package labeled Language Learning Software, and list the Level and Language.  If the disk says Audio Companion, then it is an incorrect disk.
  3. Insert the Language CD into the drive.
  4. Attempt to install.
  5. If you receive the error, then proceed to the next section.

Next, clean the Language CD:

  1. Eject the disk from your drive.
  2. Dampen a cotton cloth with window cleaner or rubbing alcohol.
  3. Gently wipe the back of the disk clean.
  4. Insert the disk into your CD drive.
  5. Attempt to install.
  6. If you receive the error, then proceed to the next section.

Update to the latest application version by clicking here. After you have installed the update, try to install the language level again.

Run the application as administrator.
  1. Click the Start button, then right-click Rosetta Stone Version 3.
  2. In the box that appears, click Run as Administrator. Then click OK on the box that appears.
  3. Attempt to install the language level.
  4. If you receive the error, proceed to the next section.

Restarting the computer one or more times can allow Rosetta Stone to recognize the CD:

  1. Leave the Language CD in the drive.
  2. Click Windows Start , Shut Down , and then Restart .
  3. Once your computer boots to the desktop then open Rosetta Stone and attempt to install.
  4. If you receive the error, then repeat steps 1-3 up to 2 times .

On Mac OS X

First, ensure the correct disk is in the drive:

  1. Eject the CD from the drive.
  2. Ensure it is a Language CD. Language CDs from the CD package labeled Language Learning Software, and list the Level and Language.  If the disk says Audio Companion, then it is an incorrect disk.
  3. Insert the Language CD into the drive.
  4. If you receive the error, then proceed to the next section.

  2. Click the Apple icon in the upper left, and then Restart .
  3. Once your computer boots to the desktop then open Rosetta Stone and attempt to install.
  4. If you receive the error, then repeat steps 1-3 up to 2 times .
