What should I do if I'm asked to "remove" Rosetta Stone Version 3 while updating?

You may be asked to "remove" Rosetta Stone Version 3 while installing an update.  Removing the program will delete all Rosetta Stone files from your computer.

This guide will prevent your progress (check marks and scores), Language Level CD files, and activation from being deleted while updating.

On Windows XP

Back up the folders containing your user progress, Language Level CD files, and activation:

  1. Click Cancel on the prompt to "Remove Rosetta Stone Version 3..."
  2. Click Windows Start , and then My Computer .
  3. Double-click the (C:) drive , Documents and Settings , and then All Users .
  4. From then menu, click Tools and then Folder options .
  5. Click the View tab.
  6. From the list, select Show hidden files and folders , and click OK .

  7. Double-click Application Data .
  8. Right-click on the Flexnet folder and click Rename .
  9. Rename it to Flexnet1 and press Enter .
  10. Right-click on the Rosetta Stone folder and click Rename .
  11. Rename the folder to Rosetta Stone1 and press Enter .
  12. Minimize this window. You will need it later.

Remove Rosetta Stone Version 3:

Note : Your user progress, Language CD files, and activation will be saved.
  1. Click Windows Start and then Control Panel .
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs .
  3. Click Rosetta Stone Version 3 or RosettaStoneV3 and click Remove .

Install the Updated Application:

  1. Download and install the v3.4.7 Application.
  2. If Rosetta Stone opens automatically, then close it.

Restore the folders containing your user progress, Language Level CD files, and activation:

  1. Click the Application Data folder on your task bar.
  2. Right-click Flexnet and click Delete .
  3. Right-click Flexnet1 and click Rename .
  4. Rename it back to Flexnet .
  5. Right-click the Rosetta Stone folder and click Delete .
  6. Right-click the Rosetta Stone1 folder and click Rename .
  7. Rename it back to Rosetta Stone .
  8. Close the folder window.

Rosetta Stone Version 3 is up-to-date and your files have been saved:

  1. Open Rosetta Stone Version 3 from Windows Start, All Programs, Rosetta Stone, Rosetta Stone Version 3, and then Rosetta Stone Version 3.

On Windows Vista, 7, 8, or 10

Back up the folders containing your user progress, Language Level CD files, and activation:

  1. Click Cancel on the prompt to "Remove Rosetta Stone Version 3..."
  2. Click Windows Start . For Windows 8 or 10, press the Windows Key on your keyboard, and start typing %programdata% and press Enter.
  3. In the search type: %programdata% and press Enter .

  4. Right-click on the Flexnet folder and click Rename .
  5. Rename it to Flexnet1 and click Enter .
  6. Right-click on the Rosetta Stone folder and click Rename .
  7. Rename the folder to Rosetta Stone1 and press Enter .
  8. Minimize this window. You will need it later.

Remove Rosetta Stone Version 3:

Note : Your user progress, Language CD files, and activation will be saved.

  1. Click Windows Start and then Control Panel. For Windows 8 or 10, press on the Windows Key on your keyboard, and start typing Control Panel and press Enter.
  2. Click Programs and then Uninstall a Program (or Programs and Features).
  3. Right-click Rosetta Stone Version 3 or RosettaStoneV3 and click Remove (or Uninstall).

Install the Updated Application:

  1. Download and install the v3.4.7 Application.
  2. If Rosetta Stone opens automatically, then close it.

Restore the folders containing your user progress, Language Level CD files, and activation:

  1. Navigate back to the ProgramData folder.
  2. Right-click Flexnet and click Delete .
  3. Right-click Flexnet1 and click Rename .
  4. Rename it back to Flexnet .
  5. Right-click the Rosetta Stone folder and click Delete .
  6. Right-click the Rosetta Stone1 folder and click Rename .
  7. Rename it back to Rosetta Stone.
  8. Close the folder window.

Rosetta Stone Version 3 is up-to-date and your files have been saved.

  1. Open Rosetta Stone Version 3.
