TELL ME MORE - Navigation to the webpage cancelled error

When accessing the TELL ME MORE webpage, you may receive a "Navigation to the webpage cancelled" error message. If you have the Version 10 DVD-ROM, click here to download and install the latest update. If you have the Webpass or the Version 10 DVD-ROM and the update did not work, it could be due to an altered hosts file.

How to fix it:
 

If you are on Windows 2000 / XP, click here.
If you are on Windows Vista / 7click here.
If you are one Windows 8 / 10click here.
If you are on Mac OS Xclick here.


 

Windows Vista or 7

If you are receiving the "Navigation to the webpage cancelled" error message and you're using Windows Vista, please follow the instructions below.

You will need to make sure your "hosts" file has the appropriate entries:

1. Click on Start 

2. Click All Programs , then Accessories .

3. Right-click Wordpad, and left click Run as administrator

4. Click File, then Open.

5. Open Computer .

6. Open C: (often called Local Disk (C:) or OS (C:))

7. Open these folders: Windows, System32, drivers, and then etc .

8. Using the drop-down in the lower right, select All Documents.

9. Select the file "hosts" and click Open.

10. Place your cursor directly above "::1 localhost" 17. Type "127.0.0.1 (press the tab key) localhost".

11. Go to File, click Save . Close Wordpad.

12. Open Rosetta Stone

Windows 8 / 10

If you are receiving the "Navigation to the webpage cancelled" error message and you're using Windows 7/8 please follow the instructions below.

You will need to make sure your "hosts" file has the appropriate entries:

1. Press on the Windows Key on your keyboard, and type WordPad.

2. Right click on Wordpad , and then left click on Run as Administrator.

3. Go to File , then Open .

4. Then click on  Computer on the left column.

6. Open C: (often called Local Disk (C:) or OS (C:))

7. Open the following folders in order from C drive. Windows, System32, drivers, and then etc .

8. Using the drop-down in the lower-right select All Documents.

9. Select the file "hosts" and click Open .

10. Immediately above "::1 localhost" , type " 127.0.0.1 (press the tab key) localhost ".

11. Go to File and click Save . Close Wordpad.

12. Launch Rosetta Stone.

Mac OS X

If you are receiving the "Navigation to the webpage cancelled" error message and you're using Mac OS X, please follow the instructions below.

You will need to make sure your "hosts" file has the appropriate entries:

1. Click the Finder icon on your dock.

2. Click Go from the toolbar, then Go to Folder 

3. Type etc and click Go .

4. Drag the hosts file to your desktop.

5. Ctrl + click on the hosts file on your desktop, then Open With TextEdit .

6. You may be missing the "127.0.0.1 localhost" line. If you don't see this line, re-add by typing: 127.0.0.1(Press Tab on your keyboard) localhost.

7. Click the red dot in the upper left to close the window. Click Save .

8. Drag the hosts file back into the etc folder. You will receive the message " The item 'hosts' could not be moved because 'etc' cannot be modified. " Click Authenticate .

Windows 2000 or XP

If you are receiving the "Navigation to the webpage cancelled" error message and you're using Windows XP, please follow the instructions below.

You will need to make sure your "hosts" file has the appropriate entries:

1. Go to Windows Start and then Run .

2. Type %systemroot% and click OK . This will open a new window with folders.

3. Double-click on these folders: System32 drivers , then etc .

4. Double-click on hosts . Select Wordpad from the Open With window and click OK .

6.You may be missing the "127.0.0.1 localhost" line. If you don't see this line, re-add by typing: 127.0.0.1(Press Tab on your keyboard) localhost

7. Click the in the upper right hand corner to exit the window. When prompted to save changes, click Save .
