Error 1117: “An error occurred loading the speech engine”

Error 1117 commonly refers to an altered “hosts” file. The Rosetta Stone speech engine uses this file; if it has been inappropriately changed then it can cause this error.

How to fix it:

1. If you have Rosetta Stone Version 3, you can Upgrade to Language Learning . If you'd rather not, proceed to step 2.

Our Language Learning product is not only a more stable platform designed for modern operating systems, but it also has the capacity for additional immersive features such as:

  • Live Tutoring – Practice your new language in real time in a small-group setting. Your session will be guided by an experienced Studio coach who is a native speaker of your new language.
  • Games & Activities – Our online language learning community where learners and native speakers across the world come together to practice their language abilities.
  • Mobile Apps – Never fall behind by using our Learn Languages: Rosetta Stone app for your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Kindle Fire, Nook, or Android tablet.
You may proceed to purchase the Language Learning Upgrade and follow the instructions to install.

Note: Ensure you meet our System Requirements for Language Learning before you upgrade.
