I receive error, "Network Communication Error" upon logging into Rosetta Stone Version 2 Homeschool

This message indicates the Rosetta Stone Version 2 client is unable to connect to the Student Management System server.

Here's two ways to fix it:

  1. Upgrade to Version 3 Homeschool. We are currently offering eligible Version 2 Homeschool customers to upgrade to Version 3 Homeschool.  The Version 3 Homeschool program includes:
  • Improved Course Content – High-quality photographs and improved vocabulary, grammar, and phrases enable your child to achieve scholarly success
  • Improved Speech Recognition – Our proprietary speech-recognition technology has been improved to accurately assess the learner’s speaking ability.
  • Pre-defined Curriculum – Designed to focus on specific language skills and set the pace for learning. 11 pre-defined curriculum allow you to easily choose a course suited to your child’s goals.
  • Parent Administration Tools – We have simplified how to manage your child’s curriculum and scores through the Homeschool Dashboard.  Using an intuitive interface, parents have the ability to change curriculum, and view and print user’s scores.

  • Configure the IP and port number on the Student Management System server.

On Windows

  1. Click Windows Start , All Programs , Rosetta Stone , Student Management System v3.X.X , SMS Service x3.X.X and then Stop SMS Service .
  2. Click Windows Start , All Programs , Rosetta Stone , Student Management System v3.X.X , and then SMS Configuration .
    *The X’s will be your version of SMS .
  3. Click Administrator Only .
  4. Set Server IP/URL to 127.0.0.1 and Port Number to 8080 .
  5. Click Set .
  6. Click Windows Start , All Programs , Rosetta Stone , Student Management System v3.X.X , SMS Service v3.X and then Start SMS Service
  7. Click Windows Start , All Programs , Rosetta Stone , 2.X.X.XAsms , then Find SMS Servers
  8. Click Find SMS Server(s) , click the server at 127.0.0.1:8080 and click Select SMS Server .
  9. Launch Rosetta Stone Version 2 and attempt to login again.

On Windows Vista and 7

On Mac OS X

  1. Double-click on SMS 3.X.Xhs folder on your desktop, or in Applications.

    *The X’s will be your version of SMS.

  2. Double-click Stop SMS Service .
  3. Double-click SMS Configuration .
  4. Set the Install Type to Administrator Only.
  5. Set the Server IP/URL to 127.0.0.1 and the Port Number to 8080 .
  6. Click Set .
  7. Double-click Start SMS Service .
  8. Go to Applications and double-click on the Rosetta Stone , RS 2.X.X.XAsms , and then Configure Rosetta Stone Client . *The X’s will be your version of the Rosetta Stone client. .
  9. Click 2x/3x Server Address . Ensure the URL is http://127.0.0.1 and Port is 8080. Click OK .
  10. Double-click on the Rosetta Stone application and attempt to login.
