Error 5118

Error 5118 indicates an issue with the user progress file in Rosetta Stone®. This can sometimes be caused by a corrupted progress file, the Rosetta Stone® application not being up-to-date, or another application interfering with Rosetta Stone®.

On Windows Vista, 7, 8

First, ensure your headset is plugged in:

  1. Exit Rosetta Stone by clicking Exit the Application .
  2. Plug your headset to your computer. 
  3. Open Rosetta Stone by double-clicking on the Rosetta Stone icon on your desktop.
  4. If you receive error 5118 , then proceed to the next section.

Next check your Application version:

  1. Click Windows Start, and then Control Panel . For Windows 8, press the windows key on your keyboard and type Control Panel and press Enter
  2. If your view is Category, then click Programs and Features (Or Programs), and then Uninstall a Program. If your view is Classic, then click Programs and Features.
  3. Locate Rosetta Stone and click on it.
  4. Make note of the Product version number at the bottom. and  download and install the 5.0.13 update.if you do not have the 5.0.13 application installed. 
  5. If it is 5.0.13 or higher , then proceed to the next section.

If no users have made progress, then remove the progress file. If you wish to save progress, then skip to the next section:

  1. Click Windows Start and type %programdata% in the Search box and press Enter. For Windows 8, press on the Windows key on your keyboard and type %programdata% and press Enter
  2. Double-click Rosetta Stone and then on Language Training.
  3. Right-click on the tracking.db3  file and click Delete.
  4. Close the folder window.
  5. Launch Rosetta Stone by double-clicking Rosetta Stone on your desktop.
  6. If you receive error 5118 then proceed to the next section.

If you continue to receive the 5118 error message then add exclusions into any Anti-virus or back-up programs installed:

  1. If you have Antivirus or Firewall applications installed, ensure Rosetta Stone files and folders are added to the exclusions list. Click here for the list of files and folders.
  2. If your security program is not listed, or you have a back-up program we encourage you to contact the provider and request assistance in adding an exclusion to the following location: C:\ProgramData\Rosetta Stone

On Mac OS X

First, ensure your headset is plugged in.

  1. Plug your headset to your computer. 
  2. Click Finder on your dock.
  3. From the menubar (located all the way at the top), click Go and then Applications.
  4. Control + Click on Rosetta Stone, and click Get Info.
  5. Make note of the version number. If it is 4.0.12, 4.0.17, or 4.0.19 then download and install the 4.5.5 Update for Mac OS X if you are on Mac 10.6. If you have Mac 10.7 or higher, download and install the 5.0.13 update.
  6. If it is 4.1.10 or higher, then proceed to the next section.

If no course progress has been made, then remove the progress file. If you wish to save progress, then please contact us:

  1. Click Finder on your dock.
  2. From the menubar click Go and then Computer.
  3. Click Mac HD , Library , Application Support , Rosetta Stone and then TOTALe or Language Training.
  4. Control + click on tracking.db3 and click Move to trash.
  5. From the menubar, click Go and then Applications.
  6. Double-click on Rosetta Stone TOTALe or Rosetta Stone.
 

On Windows XP

First, ensure your headset is plugged in:
  1. Exit Rosetta Stone TOTALe by clicking Exit the Application .
  2. Plug your headset to your computer. .
  3. Open Rosetta Stone by double-clicking Rosetta Stone TOTALe on your desktop.
  4. If you receive error 5118 , then proceed to the next section.

Next check the version of your Rosetta Stone application:

  1. Click Windows Start , and then Control Panel .
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs .
  3. Locate Rosetta Stone TOTALe in the list. Click Click here for support information .
  4. Make note of the version number. If it is 4.0.12, 4.0.17, or 4.0.19 , then download and install the 4.5.5 update .

If no course progress has been made, then remove the progress file. If you wish to save progress, then skip to the next section:

  1. Click Windows Start and then Run and type %applicationdata% in the box and press Enter.
  2. Double-click Rosetta Stone and then TOTALe .
  3. Right-click on the tracking.db3 file and click Delete .
  4. Close the folder window.
  5. Launch Rosetta Stone from Rosetta Stone TOTALe icon on your desktop.

If you continue to receive the 5118 error message then add exclusions into any Anti-virus or back-up programs installed:

  1. If you have Antivirus or Firewall applications installed, ensure Rosetta Stone files and folders are added to the exclusions list. Click here for the list of files and folders.
  2. If your security program is not listed, or you have a back-up program we encourage you to contact the provider and request assistance in adding an exclusion to the following location: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Rosetta Stone
