Error 5118

Error 5118 indicates an issue with the user progress file in Rosetta Stone Version 3. This can sometimes be caused by a corrupted progress file, the Rosetta Stone application not being up-to-date, or another application interfering with Rosetta Stone.

On Windows Vista, 7, 8, or 10

First, ensure your headset is plugged in:

  1. Exit Rosetta Stone Version 3 by clicking Exit the Application .
  2. Plug your USB headset into an available USB port.
  3. Open Rosetta Stone by clicking the icon on your desktop.
  4. If you receive error 5118 , then proceed to the next section.

Next check your version of your Rosetta Stone Version 3 application:

  1. Click Windows Start , and then Control Panel if on Vista or 7. For Windows 8 or 10, press the Windows Key on your keyboard and type Control Panel, then press Enter.
  2. If your view is Category , then click Programs and Features (Or Programs), and then Uninstall a Program . If your view is Classic , then click Programs and Features .
  3. Locate Rosetta Stone Version 3 and click on it.
  4. Make note of the Product version number. If it is not 3.4.7.0 , then download and install the 3.4.7 update.
  5. If it is 3.4.7.0 , then proceed to the next section.

If no users have made progress on this installation, then remove the progress file. If you wish to save progress, then skip to the next section:

  1. Click Windows Start and then type %programdata% in the Search box and press Enter if on Windows Vista or 7. For Windows 8 or 10, press the Windows Key on your keyboard and type %programdata% and press Enter.
  2. Double-click the Rosetta Stone folder.
  3. Right-click on the tracking file and click Delete .
  4. Close the folder window.
  5. Launch Rosetta Stone Version 3 by clicking Windows Start , All Programs , Rosetta Stone and then Rosetta Stone Version 3 .
  6. If you receive error 5118 then proceed to the next section.

If you continue to receive the 5118 error message then we encourage you to add exclusions into any Anti-virus or back-up programs installed:

  1. If you have Antivirus or Firewall applications installed, ensure Rosetta Stone files and folders are added to the exclusions list. Click here for the list of files and folders.
  2. If your security program is not listed, or you have a back-up program we encourage you to contact the provider and request assistance in adding an exclusion to the following location: C:\ProgramData\Rosetta Stone
 

 

On Mac OS X

First, ensure your headset is plugged in.

  1. Plug your USB headset into an available USB port.
  2. Click Finder on your dock .
  3. From the menu bar, click Go and then Applications .
  4. Control + Click on Rosetta Stone Version 3 , and click Get Info .
  5. Beside Version make note of the number. If it is not 3.4.5 then download and install the 3.4.5 Update for Mac OS X.
  6. If it is 3.4.5, then proceed to the next section.

Next check for a duplicate progress file:

  1. Click Finder on your dock.
  2. From the menu bar click Go and then Computer .
  3. Click Mac HD , Library , Application Support , and then Rosetta Stone Version 3 .
  4. If you see a tracking.db3 and a tracking.db3.rev 6 file, then Control + Click tracking.db3 and click Move to Trash .
  5. Click the tracking.db3.rev 6 file, press Enter on your keyboard, and then click on the name tracking.db3.rev 6 to rename it.
  6. Rename the file to tracking.db3 and press Enter .
  7. From the menu bar, click Go and then Applications .
  8. Double-click on Rosetta Stone Version 3 .
 

On Windows XP

First, ensure your headset is plugged in:
  1. Exit Rosetta Stone Version 3 by clicking Exit the Application .
  2. Plug your USB headset into an available USB port.
  3. Open Rosetta Stone by clicking Windows Start , All Programs , Rosetta Stone Version 3 , and then Rosetta Stone Version 3 .
  4. If you receive error 5118 , then proceed to the next section.

Next check the version of your Rosetta Stone application:

  1. Click Windows Start , and then Control Panel .
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs .
  3. Locate Rosetta Stone Version 3 in the list. Click Click here for support information .
  4. Make note of the number beside Version. If it is not 3.4.7.0 , then download and install the 3.4.7 update.
  5. If it is 3.4.7.0 , then proceed to the next section.

If no users have made progress on this installation, then remove the progress file. If you wish to save progress, then skip to the next section:

  1. Click Windows Start and then Run.

  2. Type %applicationdata% and press Enter and then double click Rosetta Stone .
  3. Right-click on the tracking.db3 file and click Delete .
  4. Close the folder window.
  5. Launch Rosetta Stone Version 3 from Windows Start , All Programs , Rosetta Stone Version 3 , and click Rosetta Stone Version 3 .

If you continue to receive the 5118 error message then we encourage you to add exclusions into any Anti-virus or back-up programs installed:

  1. If you have Antivirus or Firewall applications installed, ensure Rosetta Stone files and folders are added to the exclusions list. Click here for the list of files and folders.
  2. If your security program is not listed, or you have a back-up program we encourage you to contact the provider and request assistance in adding an exclusion to the following location: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Rosetta Stone
