I receive error 3217 after selecting my user name.

This error occurs because one or more files from your Language Level CDs are corrupt or missing.  The causes of this can be your anti-virus program removing the files, or your CD-drive not reading the files correctly.  In this solution, you'll do the following:

  1. Add anti-virus exclusions for Rosetta Stone
  2. Download and install the Language Level files

Follow the instructions for:

 

On Windows XP

If you have Antivirus or Firewall applications installed, ensure Rosetta Stone files and folders are added to the exclusions list. Click here for the list of files and folders.

Remove corrupted files:
  1. Click Windows Start and then click Run.

  2. Then type %applicationdata% and press Enter on your keyboard.
  3. Open the Rosetta Stone folder and then TOTALe .
  4. Right-click on products.xml and click Delete.

  5. Right-click on dynamicstoredpaths.xml and click Delete.

  6. Right-click on Content and click Delete.

  7. Close the folder window.

Finally, re-install from a download:

*Note:  If you do not want to download, then you may re-install from your CDs by opening Rosetta Stone and following the prompts.
 
 

On Windows Vista and 7

If you have Antivirus or Firewall applications installed, ensure Rosetta Stone files and folders are added to the exclusions list. Click here for the list of files and folders.

Remove corrupted files:
  1. Click Windows Start and then type %programdata% in the Search box and press Enter on your keyboard.

  2. Double-click the Rosetta Stone folder and then TOTALe on Windows Vista or Language Training on Windows 7.
  3. Right-click on products and click Delete.

  4. Right-click on dynamicstoredpaths and click Delete .

  5. Right-click on Content and click Delete.

  6. Close the folder window.

Re-install from a download:

Note:  If you do not want to download, then you may re-install from your CDs by opening Rosetta Stone and following the prompts.

 



On Windows 8 or 10.

If you have Antivirus or Firewall applications installed, ensure Rosetta Stone files and folders are added to the exclusions list. Click here for the list of files and folders.

Remove corrupted files:
  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard and start typing %programdata% and press Enter.
  2. The ProgramData folder will appear.
  3. Double-click Rosetta Stone and then Language Training  .
  4. Right-click on products and click Delete.

  5. Right-click on dynamicstoredpaths and click Delete .

  6. Right-click on Content and click Delete.

  7. Close the folder window.

Finally, re-install from a download:

*Note:  If you do not want to download, then you may re-install from your CDs by opening Rosetta Stone and following the prompts.
 

On Mac OS X

If you have Antivirus or Firewall applications installed, ensure Rosetta Stone files and folders are added to the exclusions list. Click here for the list of files and folders.

Remove corrupted files:
  1. Click Finder on your dock.

  2. Click the Go drop-down from the menu-bar and then click Computer .

  3. Click Mac HD , Library , Application Support , Rosetta Stone , and then TOTALe on Mac 10.6 or Language Training on Mac 10.7 or above.
  4. Control + click on products.xml and click Move to Trash .

  5. Control + click on dynamicstoredpaths.xml and click Move to Trash .

  6. Control + click on Content and click Move to Trash .

Finally, re-install from a download:

*Note:  If you do not want to download, then you may re-install from your CDs by opening Rosetta Stone and following the prompts.
