Error 4118 Rosetta Stone Language Learning CD-ROM/Download

This error indicates content from Rosetta Stone® language files are missing or corrupt. This could be caused by missing or corrupt language content.  To correct the error, we are going to remove and re-add the language level(s).

If you are receiving the 4118 error message and you're using Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, or Mac OSX, please follow the instructions below.


You must update your application to 5.0.37 installer before proceeding.

*After you have installed the 5.0.37 installer, please follow the remaining directions below.

Removing Language Levels

1. On your desktop double-click the Rosetta Stone icon to launch the program.

2. Click on the Gear towards the top right corner.

3. From the drop down click on Manage Languages

4. Click Remove a Language Level .

5. From the following dialog box, make sure your language level is selected and click on Remove selected language

Click Yes to confirm the removal of the language level

8. Once the level has finished removing click on Manage Languages

9. Repeat steps 4-8 for the remaining levels, until all levels are removed.

Reinstalling your Language Levels

Reinstalling with CD's for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, and Mac OSX

1. Once all levels have been removed click on Add a Language Level

2. Insert a Language Level disk into your CD drive and click Continue .

3. Accept the default install location.

4. Once the Language Level installation is complete you'll be prompted to Continue or Add More . If you have additional Language Levels, click Add More. If you don't have additional Levels to install, click Continue .

If you're using Windows 7, please follow the instructions below:

1. Click Windows Start 

2. In the search type: %programdata% and press Enter .




3. A list of folders will appear. Double-click Rosetta Stonethen Language Trainingthen AutoInstalland finally the Installed  folder.

4. In the Installed folder you will see a list of .RSD files for your languages.  Select all the files in the folder, then right-click on the selection and choose Copy.

5. Hit the back button in your window 3 times to end up at the following options

6. Double-click on then Language Training, then AutoInstall.

7. Once in the AutoInstall folder, right click on an empty area and select paste to move the previously copied RSD files.

8. Close out of the folder, then launch Rosetta Stone from the desktop shortcut.  At this point the language levels should install automatically.

If you're using Windows 8 or 10, please follow the instructions below:

1. Press the Windows key User-added image on your keyboard, and start typing: %programdata% and press Enter .

2. A list of folders will appear. Double-click Rosetta Stone, then Language Training,  then AutoInstall, and finally the Installed folder.

3.In the Installed folder you will see a list of .RSD files for your languages.  Select all the files in the folder, then right-click on the selection and choose Copy.

If you're using Mac OSX, please follow the instructions below:

1. Click the Finder icon in your dock, then click Go in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

2. Click Computer in the drop down menu that appears.

3. Click into the following folders: Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Rosetta Stone/Language Training/AutoInstall/Installed

4. Highlight all the files shown and drag them back into the AutoInstall folder.

5. Close the folder window and reopen Rosetta Stone from the Applications folder. It will then proceed to reinstall the language levels.
