Errors 2122, 2123, 2125, "Database is out of date" on Version 3 Homeschool Edition

These errors mean there is a problem with the file that keeps track of your users and scores.
In most cases, another program is conflicting with Rosetta Stone®, although occasionally this file is corrupted and needs to be replaced.
Note: If you have Version 3 Personal Edition, see our article for 2122, 2123, 2125 Version 3 Personal Edition first.

This article is for Version 3 Homeschool, and Version 3 Personal Edition users who do not qualify for the Version 4 update.

Here's how to fix it:

If you are using Windows XP, please click here
If you are using Windows Vista or 7, please click here
If you are using Windows 8 or 10, please click here
If you are using Mac OS X, please click here


On Windows Vista and 7

If you are using Windows Vista and Windows 7, please follow the instructions below:

Restart your computer:

  1. Click Start and then click the arrow beside Shut Down.
  2. Select Restart from the menu.
  3. Once your computer reboots, then launch Rosetta Stone Version 3.
  4. Move onto the next step if you still receive an error.

Search for applications interfering with Rosetta Stone:

  1. Click Start, and then Control Panel.
  2. Click Uninstall a Program located beneath Programs .
  3. Look for the following programs in the list:
    • Acronis
    • BitDefender
    • Dell Datasafe (including Dell Datasafe Online)
    • Sonic Mastering Studio
    • Zoomtext

      If Sonic Mastering Studio or Zoomtext is installed, close those programs. Then, launch Rosetta Stone and launch Sonic Master Studio or Zoomtext again.
      If Dell Datasafe is installed, please contact Dell to allow Rosetta Stone to run or you may uninstall the program at your own risk.
      If BitDefender is installed, please contact BitDefender to add exclusions.
      If Acronis is installed, please contact Acronis to add exclusions for C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Rosetta Stone\

  4. Move onto the next step if you still receive an error.

Rename the tracking.db3 file:

  1. Click Start and in the search type: C:\ProgramData\Rosetta Stone
  2. Then click into the Rosetta Stone Version 3 folder.
  3. Right-click on tracking.db3 and click Rename.
  4. Name the file to tracking1.db3
    *Note: This file contains your user progress, and it will not be read by the program once you rename it. This is necessary if your user progress file is corrupt.
  5. Open Rosetta Stone Version 3.

On Windows 8 or 10

If you are using Windows Vista and Windows 7, please follow the instructions below:

Restart your computer:

  1. Press the (Windows 8) Windows Key  + C. The Settings menu will appear.
  2. Select Power from the menu, and click Restart.
  3. For Windows 10, press the Windows Key on your keyboard, and click Power then choose Restart.
  4. Once your computer reboots, then launch Rosetta Stone Version 3.
  5. If you still receive the 2122, 2123, or 2125 errors, follow the steps below.

Search for applications interfering with Rosetta Stone:

  1. Press the Windows Key on your keyboard, and type Control and press Enter.
  2. Click Uninstall a Program located beneath Programs .
  3. Look for the following programs in the list:
    • Acronis
    • BitDefender
    • Dell Datasafe (including Dell Datasafe Online)
    • Sonic Mastering Studio
    • Zoomtext

      If Sonic Mastering Studio or Zoomtext is installed, close those programs. Then, launch Rosetta Stone and launch Sonic Master Studio or Zoomtext again.
      If Dell Datasafe is installed, please contact Dell to allow Rosetta Stone to run or you may uninstall the program at your own risk.
      If BitDefender is installed, please contact BitDefender to add exclusions.

  4. Move onto the next step if you still receive an error.

Rename the tracking.db3 file:

  1. Press the Windows Key on your keyboard, and start typing %programdata% and press Enter. Then click on the Rosetta Stone folder.
  2. Double click into Rosetta Stone Version 3 folder.
  3. Right-click on tracking.db3 and click Rename.
  4. Name the file to tracking1.db3
    Note: After renaming this file, your course progress won't be available in Rosetta Stone. Unfortunately, this is necessary since the file is probably corrupt and not repairable.
  5. Open Rosetta Stone Version 3.

On Windows XP

If you have Windows 2000 or Windows XP, please follow the instructions below:

Restart your computer:

  1. Click Start , and then Shut Down.
  2. Select Restart from the drop down menu and click OK.
  3. Once your computer restarts, launch Rosetta Stone Version 3.
  4. Move onto the next step if you still receive an error.

Search for applications interfering with Rosetta Stone:

  1. Click Start , and then Control Panel.
  2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Look for the following programs in the list:
    • Acronis
    • BitDefender
    • Dell Datasafe (including Dell Datasafe Online)
    • Sonic Mastering Studio
    • Zoomtext

      If Sonic Mastering Studio or Zoomtext is installed, close those programs. Then, launch Rosetta Stone and launch Sonic Master Studio or Zoomtext again.
      If Dell Datasafe is installed, please contact Dell to allow Rosetta Stone to run or you may uninstall the program at your own risk.
      If BitDefender is installed, please contact BitDefender to add exclusions.
      If Acronis is installed, please contact Acronis to add exclusions for C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Rosetta Stone\

  4. Move onto the next step if you still receive an error.

  4. Open Rosetta Stone Version 3.

On Mac OS X

If you are using Mac OS X, please follow the instructions below:

Check for a duplicate progress file:

  1. Double click Mac HD, Library, Application Support, and then Rosetta Stone Version 3 .
  2. You should see tracking.db3 and tracking.db3.rev6. If you do not, please contact Rosetta Stone Support.
  3. Drag tracking.db3 to your desktop.
  4. Control+click on tracking.db3.rev6 and press Get Info.
  5. Under Name & Extension rename the file tracking.db3.
  6. You may receive the message Are you sure you want to change the extension from “.rev6” to “.db3”?, click Use .db3.
  7. Close the window and launch Rosetta Stone.
