Language Training

Language Training is the cornerstone of your experience as you learn a language. You will learn exclusively in your new language, without translation, quickly gaining the confidence to communicate. The Rosetta Stone immersion-based learning method immediately teaches you to think in a new language by connecting words with vivid imagery in real-life contexts to convey meaning.

Language Training offers three or five levels, depending on the language. These levels are each divided into four units. Each unit contains four core lessons, which teach new material, and a final Milestone review lesson. Complimenting the core lessons are smaller focused lessons that reinforce specific concepts and vocabulary for that unit. The image below illustrates Level 2, Unit 6 of Language Training on a learner’s Rosetta Stone home screen.

You have completed a unit when there are green check marks on each core lesson and focused activity on the screen. If you do not receive a passing score, you will see a red X over the lesson icon. A lesson marked with a ribbon means that the lesson is still in progress: you can retake or continue an activity at any time. Below are the percentages required to pass each type of activity.

If you have previous experience with the language you are learning with Rosetta Stone, you can utilize the Course Contents to find an appropriate place in the course to begin. This document contains all of the core lessons in Language Training, written out in your target language. If you decide to move ahead in the course for this reason, we recommend that you always begin with the first core lesson of a level, and not in the middle of a level. To access the Course Contents, click HERE.

Games & Activities

Games & Activities contains activities you can play by yourself or with a partner (Play and Talk icons), as well as stories you can read that are entirely in your new language (Read icon). The content in these activities correlates with your progress in Language Training, allowing you to further reinforce and review the material you’ve learned.

Note: If you are a Foundations for K-12 learner, you may only have access to certain games and activities, based on the type of access your organization has provided you.

Live Tutoring

Live Tutoring sessions are 25-minute interactive sessions with a native speaker of your new language (the Tutor) and up to three fellow learners. Sessions are scheduled after you complete the second and fourth core lessons of each unit in Language Training. During the session, the Tutor walks the learners through a review of the material covered in the lessons. To schedule a Live Tutoring session, open the scheduling screen by selecting the headset icon on your Rosetta Stone home screen. Then, navigate to the unit and lesson you’d like to attend.

After clicking “Schedule” you will be prompted to select an available time. To attend your session, launch Rosetta Stone about 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. Hold your mouse over the Living Tutoring icon in the top-right corner of your home screen, and click “Attend” to configure your USB headset and enter the session.
